Love that we're all happy to thirst about Belial all day but the second he's mean to Grimnir we're all dogpiling him to beat the shit out of him
It's so good to have standards 🥰
WELL YEAH.
we're thirsty for him and want to domesticate him but he's still a meanie!!!! and if he's going to be a meanie to the sweetest boy of them all, he's going to HEAR FROM US.
Love how just a few days ago we were talking about him beheading Lucifer and how we would want to domesticate him from this point and give him a redemption arc, meanwhile just the idea he'd be rude to Grimnir is having us up arms like

you want a new kind of guy, fine, i raise you: the lady i was briefly roommates with in college who once smoked a blunt at a party and then spent an hour confessing earnestly to me that she genuinely preferred reading detailed episode recaps over actually watching the tv show in question
#she sounded so remorseful & i just stood staring like an anthropologist watching their phd thesis spontaneously manifest before their eyes#apparently she would watch the pilot episode to get a feel for the characters#and then just read a bunch of recaps & episode reviews instead of watching future episodes. what fresh steaming hell#this conversation took place like a year and a half after we were roommates btw. i had seen her maybe twice in that time period#i thought she was a standard frat girl but then 18 months later she appears in the wild grass to reveal unhinged character background to me#and i'm just standing there nodding feeling like i missed a weird opportunity i did not want or ask for#honestly thought i was the weirdest person in that apartment situation but now i'm wondering what our other 2 roommates were hiding#not my strangest college experience at ALL but like. definitely top 20#this wasn't the same person as Aquarium Girl btw but oddly enough they were roommates actually#(not at the same time that Recaps Lady and i were roommates but at different intervals idk)#anyway i probably should have interviewed at more than one apartment before taking over a sublease but summer sess is a weird time u know#oh and this happened in Hong Kong btw

Crack theory that Decarabian is inspired by Qin Shi Huang, founder of the Qin dynasty and the first emperor (previous rulers refered to themselves as 'king') of China
In the chinese version, Decarabian is occationally refered to as 孤王 (gūwáng, lone(ly) king) which is a title Qin Shi Huang created for himself for being so high and mighty that normal people cannot come close to him
Qin Shi Huang has been viewed as a tyrant, mostly due to assessments by the Han dynasty that came after
However, he also unified China via standardization of weights and measurement, wheel axels, currencies, written language script, and developed extensive networks of roads and canals for trade and communication. Similar to Decarabian's methodical organization (to the point of micromanagement) of his city
Qin Shi Huang is also known for connecting various state walls built during previous centuries into the precursor to the Great Wall of China for defence against attacks from northern tribes, parallelling Decarabian's tall walls that encircle Old Mondstadt for Safety (or even the storm barrier)
Bonus:
The state of Qin also conquered the six other powerful states in China at the time, ending the Warring States period — so I propose that Decarabian not only preemptively declared himself the seat of the Anemo Archon (which would explain why both he and Venti get refered to as 'wind god') but also the overall victor of the Archon War
#do you think there's historical revisionism in mondstadt? some guy writing 'ya know maybe decarabian wasn't That bad'#'sure he was a tyrant and it was miserable living under him but think about it he organized old mondstadt so effidently'#'he standardized wheel axels and units of measurement! Do you think Barbatos Archon of Freedom who let the Lawrence Clan take power—#— would have done that? We owe our beautiful landscapes and bountiful crops to Barbatos but we too owe the foundations—#— of our society to Decarabian' and then the church of favonius grills him for speaking ill of Barbatos#while Venti reluctantly goes 'I GUESS he has a point but for the record everything would have been standardized after the archon war anyway#'across teyvat even. Everyone uses Mora Decarabian sure didn't standarize THAT one'#anyway qin shi huang apparently also built a network of tunnels and passageway to his over 200 palaces#so mondstadt underground decarabian reminants map expansion When#genshin talk

I wanna scream. How can a restaurant be this fucking filthy and the manager ENABLE AND ENCOURAGE IT
I shouldnt have to come in after days that I don't close and winder what I'm gonna have to clean. I shouldn't have to wipe down dirty tables from the night before. I shouldn't have to spend TWENTY MINUTES sweeping up shit from the day before.
I get it, you switch jobs to somewhere that doesn't have as many cleaning requirements so you lax a little. I do. Hell I've laxed a lil from the standards of one store I've worked at. But there's a difference in not scrubbing the ice bin everyday and not FUCKING SWEEPING OR TAKING OUT THE TRASH.
This is just one shitty thing about this place. I'm not talking about the improper food storage, or the lack of expiration dates, or the lack of food handlers licenses, or food not being kept to correct temperatures or the fact that are cleaning rags aren't being washed. That's a completely different set of issues. I'm talking about the absolute bare minimum in terms of cleaning. Because I know that this place has mopped front of house maybe twice since it opened 2 months ago and both of those were within the first 2 weeks of opening.
#rant#the fact that none of these is expected of me so doing it is goingbabove my wage is wild#im expected to clean the windows and the bathrooms#which apparently doesnt include taking the trash because that is rarely done when i dont work#im sooooo glad i have orientation for a new job friday#at a big place so i know theres cleaning standards#every restaurant has there violations that they choose#some have less than others#but fucking hell this place takes the cake#times like this make me miss my old job at starbucks#where even 3 years after that location opened it still looked like it was in its first week#where the daily weekly and monthly cleaning tasks were actually done#and i know that isnt all starbucks locations but it was ours#our tiny town starbucks was rated one of the best in north texas for multiple things within the company#fuck that store manager for blacklisting me i did nothing wrong

The utter fury of reading about a character in a Victorian novel who is frankly described as ‘ugly’ and googling them only to find out that absolutely every tv adaptation portrays them as ‘brown haired but otherwise conventionally attractive to the 21st century’
#Are Victorian men very irritating when they choose to describe women based solely on their looks? Yes!#Is it perhaps difficult to cast for an 'ugly' role without insulting actresses? Also yes!#Is it possible that our beauty conventions have changed- I say yes but this particular actress would still have made a Victorian swoon#She has perfectly plucked eyebrows and clear skin too#So it's just going to frustrate me endlessly#Also there were aspects of this character which imo are still controversial in the 21st century#Body hair being one of many things which we still hold against women for god knows what reason#Beauty standards are bullshit and nobody should be treated better just because they're more physically attractive#But the answer to that is not 'Oh let's pretend all women are beautiful by only casting hot actresses so it's obvious these men were insane'#The answer to that is 'cast all sorts of people with all sorts of looks and if you explain to the actress the standards of the time period#I'm pretty sure she's not going to be insulted if you point out that this peanut-brained Victorian man may not have had the hots for her'#You know what's also unattractive? Internalised misogyny. But we can keep that in apparently it's just the body hair that's too much#This will never stop annoying me#It's up there with 'gives 24 year old actress grey highlights to pretend that she's now an old woman'#The Woman in White#reading log

so i applied for a DREAM JOB and out of 6000 applicants!!! I ended up in the final 15 😟
…and I did SOOOOO soooooo well til the very last round 😔 i accidentally became privy to some scathing information from the judging panel. ouuuuuuuchhhh lol my insecurities.
proud of myself for being true to myself and getting far as i did, though.
#also i got covid so feeling a bit self pitying at the moment#i honestly have massive beef with their criticisms#i left this country when i was 5 and have ended up with a lot of cultural differences#sorry English ppl reading this but i feel like the UK is very caught up on appearances. for example:#it’s an outdoorsy job and the panel were unimpressed i didn’t come in my hiking boots + wet weather gear#umm…. yeah because we are SITTING INSIDE ON A SUMMER’S DAY???#it felt like posing to me? i grew up in rural NZ so I’ve spent majority of my life in the bush#PS most of the hiking boots i did see were obviously pristine and never taken on an actual hike 🙄#yes i own that stuff. no im not gonna wear it just to prove a point. i wore jeans and the same shoes ive been wearing while hiking across#europe these last 2 months.#also the NZ wilderness is so much more rugged like these hikes in UK/europe would barely count as a casual day walk to me#so our standards are very different#and we both left feeling quite unimpressed with each other I think#i’ll provide one more rant: one of the exercises involved wiring up a plug. i did it successfully but failed cos I didn’t plug it in after#well um. my mama is a scientist and taught me not to fuck with electricity unless i’m 100% sure#yes I did all the wiring right but it was still my first time so I’m being cautious. apparently that’s a bad thing 🤷♀️#enough rants from me but basically yeah lots of little things like that which I disagree with

finally got my feedback from all last year's exams to go with the marks. absolute fucking gut-punch stuff. don't really know how i am meant to keep going except through sheer inertia.
#i know i'm just sick and exhausted and wrung-out from other stuff i've had going on#and i know it wasn't actually *that* bad and i really *almost* got the mark i wanted#and there was some really nice stuff in there!#but it's just so gutting to look at things you thought you did well on and see you only did okay#or things you thought okay on where you only really did poorly#and to have that laid bare in a couple of sentences#worse to know that i worked so goddamn hard. and that i was *right* to spend so much time crying bc i wasn't going to do well enough.#worse still to know that this might end up costing me thousands and thousands and thousands of pounds#or the only career that i've wanted since i was 13#i love it here more than anything but i am so fucking burnt out by this university#and its standards and the fact that apparently i am meeting them worse than half of my peers#(because they insist on telling us exactly where we rank in our cohort each year)#still. turns out i slayed the historical linguistics data question that i thought i'd totally flunked.

You know you're a (Canadian) archivist when you have RAD on the bookmarks toolbars of every single one of your browsers.
#the valley is posting#extremely niche posts#that's the rules for archival description baybeeeeeeee#sure it's old and bloated and you only really use it for file-level description and below since it's too much detail for anything higher#but; and this is important; only canadian archivists are allowed to talk shit about it#the moment anyone else starts asking why you don't just use isad(g) for everything and have done with it#we all become its staunchest defenders#it gives you guidance when you do have the opportunity to describe at such a granular level! sure; it could do with an update#but so could every single other archival standard out there#every canadian archivist i know has a copy of rad. even the ones who don't like it have a copy of rad.#they inject it into our bloodstream like a tracker when we start the mas and it stays there forever#so i may be a little tipsy and apparently i get into an archivist state of mind when i'm tipsy

I am home from apartment hunting and I would just like to say I am extremely disappointed, as an able-bodied person, to learn only 1 out of the 13 complexes we visited had an elevator.
#like i can take the stairs its whatever i guess#but something i had on my checklist was accessibility#one place had wheelchair ramps but it doesnt do much when you have no elevator#apparently its florida law that a building less than 4 floor isnt required to have an elevator#but then all the buildings are less than 4 floors?!?!?! disgusting#my boy tried to placate me by reminding me that we are able-bodied which turned into me lecturing him#that able-bodied people have to advocate for disability rights#it also pissed me off because both his mom and my mom have issues with stairs#and ive told him many times i dont like using the stairs because there are never cameras in the stairwells#not to mention one of our main goals is to make new friends once we move and those friends might be disabled#we ourselves may become disabled one day. i already have joint pain. its super easy to break a leg#its sickens me that disabled people either have to pay more to live in a place with an elevator#or they have to pay more to have a first floor unit (yes in florida 1st floor units usually cost more)#also! most of the stairs were just plain gross! dirty and rusty and covered with mold#anyway apartment hunting is fun but largely sucks because theres so much to be disappointed by#several places just had trash everywhere. multiple wouldnt answer phone calls. one wont answer emails#none have cameras in the parking lot and had no policy regarding crime that occurs in their parking lot other than 'file a police report'#one place tried to convince us its normal to have roaches in the unit in florida even though only one place had them#we didnt even go into all 13 units because by the end my standards had gone up and my tolerance had gone down#so we left two places without completing the tour just because our reception was nonexistent and there was trash everywhere#my boy fell in love with a place with 1star ratings trash everywhere and a raccoon problem. send help#neo rambles#neo speaks#neo apartment hunts#apartment hunting#tw mold mentioned#mold mentioned#accessibility#disability advocacy#ableism

What was Anne Boleyn like as a stepmother? I keep seeing conflicting stuff and I don't want to feel unjustified hatred to wards a historical figure. (It's also important to me because I had a very rough relationship with my step mother and I hate how the evil step mum trope is used for historical figures.)
I don't want to sound blunt or rude; but it's really only your business, whether you admire AB or not? It's not for me to tell you what to do.
If you're asking my opinion, I don't believe she was a "good stepmother" (not to Mary, anyway...although, ironically, Mary herself would not have viewed her as her 'stepmother', it seems AB was a fair to middling one to Fitzroy, maybe even better than that when you consider her involvement in his marriage and his favor by Henry VIII during her queenship, although that could also be co/incidental, since he seemed to be high in his father’s favor before Anne became a significant figure, too); but I also don't think she had the chance or opportunity to be one in her circumstances.
As for the parenthetical, I don't want to invalidate your personal experiences, but, I do want to...gently point out that regardless of your final feelings on AB, there really is no modern equivalent to the Great Matter, (what Henry viewed as) the English succession crisis 1527-37, and all of the subsequent fallout of these events, not to mention mores of the time of fatherhood, kinship, the duties of daughters, the concept of sacrosanct and near-wholly bought into monarchy, dynastic power struggles, the English Reformation...
(That’s not to say the emotions involved in these interpersonal conflicts were not real, it’s just to say that they played out on this highly-charged landscape/background of politics, religion, treason, martyrdom, threats of excommunication, military intervention and interdict of trade, etc...)
And that's not to absolve or excuse Anne's behavior or actions when it comes to her role as stepmother, but it's just to say they're only understandable (understandable as in literally, comprehensible, not necessarily moral) within those contexts.
So, all that being said, there’s an array of academic opinion on this topic. One can find the ultimate weight of the responsibility given to Anne among historians such as Anna Whitelock and David Starkey, or pop historians such as Alison Weir and Melita Thomas (and the complete absolving of Henry from the latter of the latter group, which I find egregious)...controversially, I believe the most moderate assessment of evidence on this subject comes from Eric Ives (”ranting, not thinking”, etc., I might post some relevant quotes later); Loades was also pretty fair-handed on this subject (but not others); and the most apologist from Retha Warnicke (but then, RW discredits Chapuys as source material entirely, which I don’t subscribe to).
It would be quite the long project, but if you’re truly interested, I might look into compiling a masterlist of sorts of all relevant primary source quotes on this topic (most, but not all, are Chapuys, there are rarely corroborating reports by other sources, but contradictions are also rare, tbf). There is one infamous report that I believe, for several reasons (one being that there are no developments given of the allegation), might have been mistranslation or spelling error (if you’re familiar, this is the one of February 1534).
#anon#one label i really don't care for though is 'child abuser'#even if you believe anne was horrific towards mary that's simply not applicable#all of what happened during anne's queenship took place when mary was an adult; both by the standards of our times and theirs#before that she at most 'vituperates her strangely' and apparently paid a spy for one conversation with her father#these are petty and vindictive things but they don't amount to that#besides which abuse requires power imbalance . all of that happened when mary outranked anne technically#*rise to that charge

#so theyve let some people our flat for next year (to be clear we do not want it) but apparently the new tenants noticed some mould/leaks in#the bathroom so the landlord is coming to inspect the flat tomorrow and i genuinely did not clock any of that but i guess my flatmates#seem to have? because now they're pointing it all out? but idk why they wouldntve said anything about it before like even if you dont like#the landlord (which we do not) you still have to report things. and like something in my room broke months ago and i told them (thinking#then they would pass it on to the landlord) which i assume they haven't (and i didn't press the issue so it's not like this is a major#sticking point to me)#but idk. there's no point to this post i just wanted to put it somewhere#i'm not sure i'm ever going to grow out of feeling like people are leaving me out of things on purpose which i would like to because i feel#like i'm holding people who do like and care about me to some impossible standard that i'm not communicating with them#idk (again). i think i need to work on myself a bit

I am once again sad that a person I bonded with in a dream is not real
#ALEX. where are you and who are youuuu#okay so the dream was crazy. like.. coherent by my usual standards but still ridiculous#i was back at high school but was the age i am now & i was attending a class in ‘business and employment’ which was supposed to help us all#get jobs and learn skills. but in reality the vast majority of the people in the class (including myself) were in mlm schemes#(multi-level marketing before anyone gets confused with the acronym)#myself and the entirety of my high school friend group (about 8 or 9 people) formed the largest faction and we were selling fragrances#for exactly the sort of company you would expect. anyway. i’d been elected manager even though someone else in the group (who actually sells#this shit irl lol) had recruited me & another person’s mom had invested money into it so that none of us had to actually buy inventory#and i was so uncomfortable and ashamed. i was like ‘okay i’ll just do this for a month and then bounce so i can at least get work/management#experience’. so i was very much checked out when everyone was brainstorming ideas for how to come up with a brand & sell it#the only thing i did notice is that there was this guy named alex who was pretty much reporting us whenever we breathed. an example would be#we wanted to call ourselves ‘lions’ but apparently that was the name of an lgbt society in the area that was important to him#so he complained to the teacher/facilitator about us and we couldn’t use lions. and our whole group was complaining about him#but i was thinking ‘fuck i hope he gets us shut down’. he seemed like a nice guy and the stuff people started saying was borderline#homophobic so i had to be the one to shut them down like ‘hey i’m bi as well and i’m your fucking manager. any more of that and you can find#yourself a new job’#so anyway. next thing that happened was the facilitator was like ‘okay we seem to have pretty much been taken over by mlm schemes BUT here#is a list of people in the class who do not want to be recruited & their reasoning. just so you can take note’ and she does a presentation#of course it starts with alex and his ideological opposition to mlms; but there are other people like a girl who has a large academic#workload. but it becomes apparent that alex is the one who rallied them all together to spread dissent. so i went over to talk to him#(for some reason he was now hiding in a tent) and i was like ‘yes alex!!!! can i shake your hand?’ and he was puzzled but he let me#then i stood up and said ‘can i just say something. everyone has great reasons for not wanting to be recruited and as a manager; i want to#say that if i catch any of my employees trying to recruit anyone on the do not recruit list for any reason; you will be fired immediately’#of course this causes a schism. but it also causes me and alex to end up having a heart-to-heart where he’s like ‘why are you even part of#one of these things’ and i’m like ‘honestly i just want legitimate work experience’ and he’s like ‘i can think of so many more legitimate#jobs. including like. fly-tipping. i’d rather have that on my cv than scentsy’ and i was like ‘you’re so right’#and then i woke up thinking ‘god i’m going to have to go door to door selling this shit’ but then i realised i actually didn’t#and i was so happy#it has motivated me to go back to job-hunting though because my god.#that five minutes when i thought i was going to have to traverse the neighbourhood dressed like an idiot and selling wax melts? bleak.
